A child in motion: TCK’s lifetime of travel [with YouTube video]

July 4, 2020 by Aushra

Traveling through life as an adult third culture kid, is a very special experience. Really, I had not heard much on the topic before April 2019 when scrolling though my Kindle I accidentally ran into a blue book, which changed my life completely. This book by David C. Pollock, Ruch Van Reken, and Michael V. Pollock called Third Culture Kids: Growing Up Among Worlds turns out to be well known among younger TCK’s and people interested in the subject. Since […]

Perth City, King’s park, and Point Walter sandbank [YouTube video]

June 27, 2020 by Aushra

As restrictions ease in Western Australia, I have been keen to go outside and explore this city that is new, even to me! Elizabeth Quay, Kings Park, and the mystical sandbank called Point Walter. Watch the video to find out more!   In short summary  I find Australia has a double history of places and meanings. The Aboriginal story and the story of the European settlers. Australian Aboriginal meanings based on nature and images, from the dreamland and the Europeans, […]

Beautiful Rottnest Island, Western Australia: biking day tour [YouTube video]

June 22, 2020 by Aushra

Finally, the restrictions are lifting and the Rottnest Express is transporting people to this beautiful place called Rottnest Island. It so happens that I live really close to the ferry terminal and had heard all types of opinions about this place. Some people saying is not really worth the time, others saying they love it. After having visited I can definitely say it is worth it!   On the island, you have the option to rent bikes (better yet if […]

My drive across Australia: Melbourne, VIC to Perth, WA [with YouTube video]

June 17, 2020 by Aushra

Clearly, the lockdown was a unique experience for everyone. The more things return to normal, the more I can see that my experience was exceptionally unique. And now the journey back is also unique in its own way. After losing my job in early March, the lockdown was official and there was no choice but to stay at home. I watched the news broadcasts daily, sometimes most of the day, in shock as the busy streets of New York, Paris, […]

Dandenong in Black and White; my artistic photos and poetry

September 17, 2019 by Aushra

Overcoming changes is never easy. Before welcoming changes it is good to settle the past. Here are some reflections from my heart, poetry and thoughts expressed in form of photography edited on the grey scale with some tints. The roots of where our lives began;  maintain their distance on the map   The Space that separates our homes; takes long to travel Yet at spark from your eye has met my eye;  a touch from your lips has met my […]

September 3, 2019 by Aushra

Kronstadt Gardens is a Slavic aged care facility located in Dandenong, Victoria. As we know it, this is more than an aged care facility but is a central part of the Russian Orthodox Community in Australia, where families trust their loved elderly family members to care. Sadly Kronstadt Gardens, the residential part of Ruscare Ltd. will be closing October 11th 2019.     The Chairman of the facility is an Orthodox priest Very Rev. Fr. Michael Protopopov, has done a […]

It is not us who own the land, but the land owns us: Australian Aboriginal tour Royal Botanical Gardens, Melbourne

August 27, 2019 by Aushra

Last weekend I took an Australian Aboriginal walk in the Royal Botanic Gardens of Melbourne. It was very interesting to learn about the different plants and taste tea from some; listen to stories and poetry by a local aboriginal man, and enjoy the Australian sunshine. One interesting story the man told us is about how the Europeans, when they came to Australia, introduced blankets… and in the rain they used to get soaked with water. When the aboriginals used them, […]

Light colours from the tallest Skyscraper in Melbourne!

August 22, 2019 by Aushra

The Eureka Tower – located in Southbank, Melbourne, is the highest observation deck in Melbourne and in the Southern Hemisphere. This 297m skyscraper takes you 88 floors to the top to view Melbourne life from a better distance. The blues   The browns   The waiting   Welcoming the night The night has a lot to teach us. About silence, about solitude, about depth of the unknown world; one that we think we know during the day, but surprises us […]

Photo session: 2 Nepalese traditional dresses Sari and Kurtha

August 8, 2019 by Aushra

In preparation to my holiday in Nepal, I had a lovely opportunity to dress up with traditional Nepalese clothes, to experience the culture up close (before leaving Australia!). A big thanks for my friend Swastika  @shrestha.swosti  for taking shots and sharing about your culture! NEPALESE SARI             NEPALESE KURTHA    This time, experimenting with different editing styles, I challenged myself to find expressions of feelings. In this project I found that brightness of dress is […]

Dandenong by night: practicing 30sec exposure photography

August 6, 2019 by Aushra

Living on the night shift schedule, it’s easy to stay awake late even on nights off. Yesterday I went for a walk to practice long term exposure pictures with my Canon 800D and 50mm pancake lens. Here is the result. DANDENONG CITY     THE TRAIN STATION   THE BRIDGE   Some sci-fi flashlight / phone light fun! 🙂
